Online Course for the Spring 2012 Exam MLC: January 11 - April 28

Actuarial Exam Preparation Courses by G.V. Ramanathan

I will continue to be available after April 28 until the day of the SOA exam to answer questions and be of help.

Registration information is at the bottom of this page

About the Course

This course will cover the new SOA syllabus for the Spring 2012 MLC Exam using both the multistate approach and the traditional approach Life Contingencies. In the very first session we will get an overview of the subject, including Insurance, Annuities, Premiums and Reserves. The second session will deal with all that we would need to know about Markov Chains. After that each topic will be introduced through a multistate approach and it will be integrated with the traditional approach. The hope is that the student will be ready for exam questions that involve either of the approaches.

How the course will be run:

There is a schedule below. On the day of each session I will post a reading assignment from the Study Guide, a summary of the topic, some illustrative explanations, examples and exercises and a quiz. On the date that the quiz is due the students will upload the answers. Later that day I will post complete solutions to the quiz.

There will be two midterm exams and a final.

You may ask me questions directly at any time via e-mail and I will respond as promptly as I can. There will also be a Forum for students to discuss with each other and with me. This continual interaction is the most important part of the course.

About Exams:

I will post the exams at the course site, usually at 9 a.m. of the exam day. Students will take the exam over the allotted time and upload the answers. Later that day I will post the complete solutions. If for some reason that time is not convenient for you, please let me know and we can arrange for you to take it at a later time.
